Frequently Asked Questions
Owned by Blue Bay Resort Company, Punta Serena Resort and Spa is located 100 miles south of Puerto Vallarta and 30 miles north of Manzanillo, a busy fishing port and tourist city. The area is named Costa Alegre (Happy Coast) and the beaches are considered some of the most beautiful in North America.
Punta Serena was designed 15 years ago as a holistic spa catering to adults (sorry, no kids). Set on a cliff overlooking stunning Tenacatita Bay, home to dolphin pods and other sea life. It is absolutely private and exclusive. Be advised that the Punta Serena Resort & Spa operates all year round as a European style beach. Clothing is optional. This is not a policy of our yoga group, however it is an adults-only resort and you are free to choose how you are most comfortable.
I am single and solo.
What are my rooming options?
Traveling solo? No problem! You will have an opportunity to meet fellow yogis just like you and make new friends. Deluxe Cottages and Oceanside Villas are both large enough for SIngles and Couples.
Is the water safe?
Yes. The resort has its own purification system. Punta Serena will provide purified water before and after class as well as bottled water in the rooms. Please use bottled water when brushing teeth and if you have a sensitive stomach, monitor your ice intake.
What are the rooms like?
You have the option of staying in either an Oceanside Villa Suite or Deluxe Cottage. Every room offers stunning views of the Bay of Tenacatita. The Villa Suites are beautifully decorated two-story villas with two or three bedrooms, a spacious shared living room and a large terrace. The Deluxe Cottages feature beautiful decor with either a king-size or two double beds.
All rooms feature the following amenities:
Air-conditioned / Ceiling fan / In-room safe / Color satellite television
Direct dial telephone / Balcony or terrace with hammock
I have read a lot about Mexico. Is the area safe?
The Pacific Coast of Mexico is over 1,200 miles southwest from the Mexico/United States border and far removed from any conflict happening there. It is not accurate to make a judgement on the entire country in the context of what is happening at one specific place. The Pacific Coast is tranquil, peaceful and is highlighted by the Costa Alegre (the Happy Coast.) Punta Serena sits right in the middle of the Costa Alegre overlooking Tenacatita Bay, a pristine and stunning setting. The resort has 24-hour security. Like anywhere else, it is always advisable to travel in a group setting and to use the transportation options offered by the resort.
How much money should I bring and do I need to bring before I arrive?
Unless you plan to do a lot of shopping, you will need around $200 in spending money and around $100 for staff gratuities. Please see the itinerary for the exact costs of additional excursions. We will change pesos on the second day we arrive. Pesos should be used for shopping as the exchange rate is more favorable. Let us know one day before how much you would like to exchange.
Is this a spiritual retreat?
The resort and the surrounding area feels very serene and the Mexican Temazcal ceremony can be a special, spiritual experience. However, we do not practice meditation or engage in other spiritual aspects as a group. First and foremost, it is a Hot Yoga Bliss vacation.
Do I need to be a strong practitioner?
Our trips include a mix of people at all different levels. Just bring a positive attitude and have fun! Expect to get stronger in body and mind.
Is there anything else to bring?
We will send you a list one week before.
Is there anything else I should know?
Be advised that the Punta Serena Resort & Spa operates all year round as a European style Beach. Clothing is optional.
